Taylor Castro releases Powerful Balladry “Muse with a Dagger”

The Insider

Pop music’s quickly rising star Taylor Castro is here with a new song, Muse with a Dagger from her upcoming album the new year strong with a single, Girl, Afraid!

Taylor Castro: A Star

There was no specific moment that 21-year-old singer-songwriter Taylor Castro remembers wanting to be a performer. Taylor Castro is known for her strong, powerful vocals a la Florence Welch or Kelly Clarkson; with the cool, current style of Selena Gomez, Camila Cabelo, or Demi Lovato; and her natural ability to connect with young fans (nearly 89K of them on Instagram alone!) She’s the centrepiece of PMA Records, a small indie label in Miami run by her family.

Taylor’s full-length album GIRL, AFRAID is due out this year and features ten tracks, all written by her. The eponymous first single taps into Taylor’s struggle with OCD, which she hopes will reach other young people struggling with similar mental health issues. The album will also include her 2020 hits “Coffee Eyes” and “Be Ok”.

Muse with a Dagger by Taylor Castro

” ‘Muse with a Dagger’ can be seen from many different angles, depending on the listener’s subjective point of view. For me, it’s a song about the divisions society forces us to have with those who aren’t like us, told allegorically through a relationship between two individuals.

The pair forms an unexpected bond but are torn apart due to the polarized communities they come from. This is not Romeo and Juliet, though, because the characters have genuine loyalty to their people and are frustrated by the unwanted connection. When a natural conflict occurs between the two, they rage against the other’s community.

It’s all in vain, however, because both of them will always be an entity separate from what they stand with. In a rage, one can destroy the world of the other but never quite bring themselves to destroy the other. This is because we are not defined by what we associate with. We are defined solely by the corners of our inner selves that no one can quite fit into or even grasp.”
