A Poem: The Genuine Egalitarian

Hearing the folks lament about an unjust society,
demeaning the regime and fellow denizens,
I always ask to myself
“Are we just and impartial?”
Slowly I close my eyes and think,
Have I ever wished to come second for a friends’ triumph?
Have I ever offered my favorite meal to the needy?
Neither have I dreamt of earning just enough for well-being,
And nor foregone any of the solace!
Being an egalitarian is not for dropping on paper,
or proclaiming to the masses.
Till it is not mirrored in the child’s play,
till it is not taught to the neonates,
till one sees nothing but self
Let us keep on writing.
As one intelligent being said
Pen is mightier than sword
