You must be wondering, how can I take the pleasure from life when I’m overwhelmed with stress and loneliness due to the global pandemic? Well, one of the practices in the Art of Living is to look at the positive in every situation. This not only boosts your mood and increases your motivation, but also helps you look from a different perspective.

Instead of thinking of the current situation as a stressful, lonely time where you’re stuck at home, think of it as one where you finally have the time to work on those projects that you have dreamed of for years. We find it very easy to complain about our problems, but to master control and mindfulness, we must change our thinking. Every problem that life poses is simply an opportunity to learn. We make mistakes, but eventually learn something very important from them, which will help us later in life.

Believing in life is crucial to not just surviving in the world, but making a positive impact on it. Belief is another controversial topic, as spirituality has different meanings for different people. To me, however, spirituality is simply the belief in a higher power. A positive force of attraction that helps you attain whatever you work for. That is belief. And only by believing in yourself can you hope to discover the meaning of life.

Meaning Of Life

This brings us to an important question: What is the meaning of life? 

“The actual meaning of life is to fulfill your purpose in life and accomplish your goals. What I mean by this is, everyone has a purpose, of why they are living. None of us will be here if we all didn’t have a purpose.” (Burton, Psychology Today, 2018)

Life has a different meaning for everyone, and the first step to learning the Art of Living is discovering your purpose or the meaning of your life. In the process of exploring life in all its glory, we can even discover our identity. Coming back to how you can do all of this at home during isolation, we must discuss the importance of a few things like creativity, time, passion, etc.

How does creativity help us explore our passions?

We all have a creative spark inside us, waiting to escape and show the world our own perspective. You may have been putting off trying a new hobby or working on an existing hobby, but there is no time like the present. Especially when you are presently stuck at home all day long. Not only will this help you deal with the pressing boredom, but it will also help you explore a passion that you didn’t even know you had. Combining this with one of the mindful practices to learn the Art of Living can create incredible results. 

What do you get when you add creativity and mindfulness together? Journaling. This is a hobby that anyone can do, and you can add your own twist to it. Some people like to keep their journal very organized and simple, whereas others like to create beautiful art pieces and collage works while also writing down their thoughts in colorful fonts. If you feel that this doesn’t appeal to you, you can go old school and simply write down your thoughts and feelings. Looking back on your memories will be extremely interesting and nostalgic, trust me. 

Exploring creativity can also keep us motivated and alleviate stress from the pandemic situation, as you will be letting out the stress with the strokes of your paint brush or pen. So, whatever form of creative expression you choose, make sure that it’s something personal and interesting to you, and stick to it.

How can we make mindful choices?

This is a very broad question, but to answer it, we must look at different aspects of mindfulness. First, we must define mindfulness.

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us

Some mindful choices can include meditation, yoga, affirmations, gratitude, etc. but you don’t need to do all of these to become more mindful. To learn mindfulness, all you need to do is set a little time for yourself to reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and be completely aware and focussed. While at first it might be difficult to keep your attention on one thing, daily practice will help you slowly learn the Art of Living, and you will see an improvement in your moods, and how you react to problems.

Why should you even learn the Art of Living? Well, because it has numerous benefits for your overall health and the way you live your life. Mindfulness is just the first step to creating your ideal lifestyle, where you will be able to process your thoughts and emotions properly and react to the situation in a calm, processed way. Discovering the meaning of your life will also help you be more motivated to fulfil it, which will make you happier doing otherwise menial, boring things. The key to learning the Art of Living is to get in tune with your body’s needs, and you can do this by incorporating healthier habits into your lifestyle.

What Role Does Time Play?

We have 24 hours in a day, but how does so much time just pass us by without us realizing it? We waste so much time unknowingly when instead we could have spent some of it on our passions, relaxing, or being productive. This is where time management plays a huge role, and by creating your ideal routine or method of managing your time, you will immediately see an improvement in your life. Maybe you will have more time to indulge in self care, or you will have finished some assignments or tasks long before the due date. Either way, it’s a win for you, which makes it important in the process of following a healthy lifestyle.

The main takeaway of all of this should be that you should never miss out on the opportunity to live a healthier, happier lifestyle, and to stay mindful and positive during isolation, you can try a combination of the solutions and ideas I have mentioned across the post, or you can try something new, like cleaning up your house to live in a better environment, or organizing your things, or catching up with your friends and family, because you know they can definitely make you smile.
