Hi, I am Subhashree Panigrahy, a high school senior pursuing my higher studies in Lagos, Nigeria.
Today, I am in conversation with Sneh Rana!
Sneh Rana is an Indian cricketer. She made her Women’s One Day International and Women’s Twenty20 International debut against Sri Lanka in 2014. At the age of seven she used to play with the boys of her area, and after that, she joined the cricket club named Little Master Cricket Club in Dehradun when she was nine years old.
At that time, BCCI did not affiliate Uttarakhand’s cricket association; therefore, she went to Punjab to play under an affiliated association. Like every cricket fan, Sachin Tendulkar is her favorite cricketer. Apart from Cricket, she likes to play badminton and football. She wants to open women’s cricket association for Uttarakhand’s women in Dehradun.

Interview with Sneh Rana
At what age did you start playing cricket?
I started playing cricket at a very early age, when I was 7 I used to play with boys in my village.
What’s support did you get from your family initially?
My family has always been my strength. They supported me in every step and stage of my life.
Which academy did you join to take your cricket forward?
I joined a cricket academy in Dehradun named Little Master Cricket Club. I was coached by Narendra and Kiran Shah.
Who were your cricketing idols/role models growing up?
I used to watch men’s cricket earlier so Sachin Tendulkar was my inspiration. Later I started watching Women’s cricket and intuitively began looking up to Mithali Raj.
What does your day in the current lockdown look like?
Initially it was difficult but later I started working on my fitness and I used to dance sometimes. I think the best part was being with the family for couple of months after so long.
Your best cricketing moment so far?
When I took up cricket as profession it was with a mindset of playing for Indian team so when I got a maiden call to be part of the team – it was the best moment for me.
Whose wicket was the most memorable one for you?
Genuinely as a bowler every wicket is memorable for me.
How has it been playing under Mithali Raj’s leadership?
I had a dream of playing under her captaincy, so it was great playing for India under her leadership. She is a legend and learned so much from her.
From when you initially started playing cricket to now, there have been a lot of changes in the facilities provided to female cricketers. Your take on that?
Yea, initially nobody recognised women players because of the facilities or due to the lack of exposure they got, but now female cricketers have started getting more tournaments and matches with a lot of matches being televised – so everyone now recognises most of the women players around the world.
How do you think women’s cricket can be further promoted in India?
I think BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is taking major steps towards women’s cricket now. More IPL games and domestic cricket would help to promote more women players in India.
