Rape. A topic most of us shy away from, trying to imagine it doesn’t exist. However, this article doesn’t shy away, a raw article tackling an unspoken topic.
‘You deserve to be raped!’, ‘I’ll rape you’, ‘I will kill you and then will rape you’, ‘I’ll make sure that you would be raped’. What do you think? What sort of people are they? Are they illiterates or have they lost their senses? The answer to all these questions is a clear no! All they have lost is the ethics that their parents and teachers taught them while they were in school!
In countries like India, the growth of rape culture has increased substantially.
In countries like India, the growth of rape culture has increased substantially. We can’t blame the youngsters of the 21st century! History is evident that men never treated women as equals! We can’t blame the youngsters of the 21st century! History is evident that men never treated women as equals!
The Society’s Role

There is a very famous saying ‘Change is the rule of nature’. The ideology has changed a bit but not in an affirmative way. Earlier, rape was done only for sexual pleasure rather than humiliating them. Humiliating them helped break the conventional system because of women being underachieving and restricted to household, contrary to women today who are achieving better in terms of career, sports, and other spectra of life.
John Keats described his ideal women as a milk-white lamb which bleats for man’s protection! Men in Asian countries are quite egoistic and can’t see women standing, winning, leading, and succeeding in front of their eyes. To them, progressive women are breaking norms, rituals, and societal molds set up by their ancestors. We can’t blame society entirely for this as we are the builders of our society.
Gender Sterotype

Let’s visualize this! Let’s assume that you’re going to a birthday party of a boy, what sort of gifts you will purchase for him? Definitely, you are not going to purchase dolls. You might purchase a toy-related to some famous action figures, right? And If I ask you a reason why you did so? You’ll say ‘He is a boy what he does he have to do with toys of girls’.
Now assume you are going to a birthday party of a girl. then what you will purchase as a gift for her? Maybe Barbie dolls or something like that? Again, if I ask you a reason for this you’ll say ‘She is a girl, She would like these things’. Hold on, are toys living creatures? No, they are not but we segregated them! We segregated them based on our old school philosophy.
Let’s visualize think a room of a boy child. What you can see? Probably sharp colors on the wall, lots of toys related to action figures, and a bunch of comic books again related to action figures dominantly male. Now, visualize the room of a girl. What you can see? Probably docile colors on the wall, lots of Barbie dolls, and a bunch of comic books where a girl is kidnapped and a male figure rescues her!
Now, who did all this? Probably their parents? You got that right! Right from childhood, boys and girls are taught to be different from each other. Boys are taught to be strong and girls are taught to be docile. I want to know why? In almost every popular story girls are portrayed as weak creatures and they always need a male counterpart to fight. WHY?
We’re living in the 21st century. An era of modernity can’t we modernize our thoughts?
New Era Old Mindsets

In India, times have changed and we as well! Earlier the rape threats were limited to adults but now people are sending rape threats to a 6-year-old kid as her dad was not able to play well in IPL (Indian Premier League – A cricket tournament). What is this? It’s neither her fault nor her dad! Winning and Losing is a part of the game! I can clearly remember the day when that little girl, Ziva Dhoni was born and her dad was far away from playing a World Cup finale for India and leading his team as a caption. Guess what, typical Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his legacy, we won the World Cup!
Schools are also a vital role in developing stereotypical feelings in the minds of boys. In Tier-2 city schools you might have seen that boys are thrashed by teachers but when it comes to girls teachers pat on their back! From such kind of incidents, boys start developing wrong feelings for girls and ultimately they start threatening her!
In India, it’s quite normal! You know we Indians have a habit of forgetting things easily! India saw Nirbhaya Rape Case in 2013 which shook every mother. Indian Justice System took 7 years to give justice to that girl! Recently we saw the incident of Boys Locker Room – An Instagram Page where boys shared morphed images of girls and even minors. Not only that, A couple of days ago there was an incident of Hathras where a girl was raped and her tongue was cut off!
Glorious Past, but not for all

We Indians have a glorious past but I don’t think that women had a glorious past. When women stood to fight for nationalism in India they weren’t given proper accreditation of their work. Also don’t believe in the old Indian saying ‘Guests are god’. You know what that’s just a saying Indians don’t even spare the visitors!
Some of our parliamentarians commented on rape “Girls shouldn’t wear small dresses” “They shouldn’t show their thighs”. I want to ask these people why? You (Men) can adopt western clothing but women can’t! You know what we are quite obedient towards our politicians. This time the girl in Hathras was wearing Salwar-Kameez (A traditional Indian cloth) but she was raped!
Do you have a reason, my dear politicians? Our constitution guarantees freedom of travel within the country. Our sisters and mothers are not safe on the roads of their locality. You guys are talking about moving in the country! Don’t you feel ashamed saying so? Fuck You, Dear Politicians!
You know what, a true speciality of Indians? We can consume any amount of porn. India is the largest consumer of porn. Porn is banned in India, isn’t it? you might ask. My dear friends, we Indians have the talent to use VPN for watching porn. Their porn addiction helps them to dream fantasies which are quite evident in most of our movies (leaving a few).
I want to ask those so called activists that, you guys set the city ablaze for banning a film and for serious things like rape you are nowhere to found!
On a closing note, I would like to say:
यै देश है बदल रहा
फ़रेब और हैवनियत के रास्ते चल रहा
